MEALS-ON-WHEELS
The RSC handles the Meals-on-Wheels Program for Kendall County . This program is designed to help homebound senior citizens and other eligible 'shut-ins' maintain their nutritional health while remaining in their own homes. One of the key elements of the program is that the Meals-on-Wheels service is available to any qualified individual in our area regardless of age or income level.
Guidelines for qualification are set by the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS).
Age and financial status are not a factor in determining eligibility.
All of the meals that are delivered through the Meals-on-Wheels Program are prepared and packaged in the kitchen of the Center.
The meals provide one-third of the individual's daily nutritional requirements. They are low in fat and sodium, and can be prepared to meet the dietary needs of the diabetic client.
Each meal is package in a sealed, spill-proof, microwaveable container. Frozen meals are available for evening meals, holidays or weekends.
Volunteers from the RSC deliver meals to these individuals Monday through Friday at lunch- time.
While delivering the meal, RSC volunteers 'check-up' on the recipients. If the volunteer notes unusual behavior, or cannot get a response to their knock, they report this information to a member of the RSC staff who contacts the recipient's emergency contact.
The Meals-on-Wheels Program volunteers not only deliver the food, but they also deliver the message that someone cares about the health and well-being of the recipient.
Volunteers are always needed for the Meals-on-Wheels Program. If you would like to volunteer, or need additional information, please contact John Green, RSC Site Director at 830-249-2114. |
