The RSC is a day-time activity center and is open Monday through Friday 8 AM until 2 PM. Each day the Center is filled with active senior adults who enjoy a variety of programs and activities. Our goal is to help area residents remain physically and mentally active; to remain independent; and to remain socially engaged with others.
CURRENT PROGRAMS
THE RSC NUTRITIONAL PROGRAMS
The RSC Nutritional Programs include both our on-site congregate lunch program and the Kendall County Meals-on-Wheels Program.
At the Center, we offer a hot, nutritious lunch at noon Monday through Friday for a small suggested donation.
Reservations are required for lunch at the Center. Call 830-249-2114 by 9 AM. Registered members are requested to make a suggested donation of $4.00 for each meal. Guests and those under 60 are required to pay $6.00, which is the full cost of the meal. The RSC Nutritional Programs are partially underwritten by funds from AACOG and TX Dept of Aging and Disabilities (DADS).
The Center handles the Meals-on-Wheels Program for Kendall County , which provides a hot lunch to qualified homebound citizens regardless of age or income level. Volunteers deliver the meals Monday through Friday, and at the same time provide a wellness check on each recipient. (See our Menu page for additional information.)
All of the meals that are served or delivered through the Center are prepared in the RSC kitchen by our trained staff with the help of volunteers. The meals are designed to be low in fat and sodium content. Diabetics can receive meals that are prepared for their special needs. All meals provide one-third of an individual's daily nutritional requirement, and all menus are approved by a registered dietician.
Volunteers help our kitchen staff daily with food preparation, serving and packaging meals, and with clean-up. If you would like to volunteer, call the Center at 830-249-2114.
THE RSC TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM
The RSC provides transportation services for registered members in our local area who are physically handicapped, visually impaired or are otherwise unable to drive. You must be a member of the RSC to utilize this service, and live within a 3 mile radius of the Center.
The RSC vans bring members to and from the Center each day. In addition during the morning hours, members can schedule trips to local businesses, to local doctors, to the grocery store or for other similar errands.
All of our transportation services are a shared-ride program. This means that you share the RSC van with other members of the Center, and precise times for transportation cannot be guaranteed. Reservations are required and must be made 24-hours in advance by calling 830-249-2114.
The suggested donation for trips to and from the RSC and doctor appointments is $1.50 each way.
There is a $1.50 charge each way for all other local errands.
